VERSUS Poem in Farsi
VERSUS I, II, III (read from right to left), 5/2010
Ink Jet Print with Sumi Ink on Rives BFK, 30 x 22
This tryptic was made in collaboration with my older sister Wazhmah Osman. I re-printed an image of a PowerPoint slide published on the front page of the New York Times on April 27, 2010. The slide was designed for the American military to “make sense” of American strategy in Afghanistan. We felt it was appropriate to mark up this non-sense with a poem from the heart.
Translation of the original poem by Wazhmah :::
I was
Now I am not
Wondering Lost
I exist
Only
“Between sand and Foam”*But forget not that I
shall return towards you
like the waves of the oceanOnce again I will find my way
*reference to Kahlil Gibran
